We can run this event even during RED Level, within the rules for sporting events for non-profit organisations.
We have a fenced-off area for the weigh station and under red level rules only a maximum 25 people can be in there at one time.
Competitors come in, weigh their fish, and leave. In this way the weigh station will operate in a similar manner as supermarkets.
Only those weighing fish are to come to the weigh station, children may have one adult with them.
While waiting to enter the weigh station we ask that competitors wear a mask and maintain social distancing while in line.
We will be working to make the wait time as short as possible. Please be patient.
Prizegiving
There will be no live prizegiving.
Winners will be notified by phone and results will be published on the club website.
This decision has been made due to the 25 person maximum rule that, we as organisers, must follow. This was the only way we could maintain a fishing competition for 2022.

TICKETS ON SALE NOW!!!! This iconic annual fishing competition on the glorious Matata Straights has been held every Auckland Anniversary Weekend since 1969. This fabulous summer tradition attracts surf fishers from all over NZ to the beautiful Bay of Plenty. It is limited to 1000 rods fishing 7am to 2pm only.
There will again be Beach Wardens and competitors will need to take their fresh catch to a Warden for checking and tagging. Size and species restrictions for children have been brought into line with MOF rules.
A huge thanks to our family of Bonanza sponsors. This event is only possible thanks to the generosity of our supporters and ticket sellers and we urge you to support them in return. Thanks also to the thousands of people who have competed in the last 52 Bonanzas. We look forward to welcoming returning and new entrants to the 53rd Bonanza on Sunday 30th January 2022.
